The Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase was founded in 2007 when two graduate students in the Creative Writing Program at Northern Arizona University, Patricia Petelin and Brooke Wonders, and Creative Writing Professor, Ann Cummins, proposed a collaboration with members of the Theatrikos Theater Company, Virginia Brown and Linda Sutera, to host an annual 10-minute play contest. The mission:  to encourage new plays by novice and seasoned playwrights, to provide acting and directing opportunities for new and experienced dramatists, and to celebrate new work at the Doris Harper White Community Theater in Flagstaff.

naps11Dear Friends of the Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase,

This year NAPS hosts its 10th annual ten-minute play contest. In celebration of our decade of fun bringing new plays to the Doris Harper White Theater, we will be staging ten winning plays, with one spot designated to a high school playwright. Our contest officially opens May 1, 2017. We will be accepting submissions through July 1, 2017. This year our panel of judges include Becky Daggett, Larry Hendricks and J.T. Tannous. For judges’ bios, please visit our judges page.

If you’re in the Flagstaff area, we will be hosting a FREE playwriting workshop at Theatrikos Theater Company, 11 W. Cherry, on Saturday, May 20th from 10 – noon. We invite you to attend and bring a new 10-minute play for workshop. For information, please visit our Facebook page.
